D-Day Journal

I believe that William Golding was affected by being a part of D-day because he had to witness all of his friends being brutally murdered by the Germans. He was also affected because he believed that he would die while fighting and he wrote his sister a letter saying "do not expect me to come home." He was also affected because he was constantly debating whether he would make it out alive. As he was jumping out of the boat for safety he saw his friends/ co-workers being shot at in the water and drowning by their equipment. Golding was affected because he was 19 out of many and going to start college and going into War for his country.

Golding was questioning the goodness of mankind because he was seeing all of these terrible things the Germans were doing to others. How could they have the stomach to kill someone else, Golding was questioning it because it could possibly be the way the he was brought up in a good way from his home that he didn’t believe that others could kill one another. I believe that man is born with goodness and learns to be barbaric, because it all depends on where you grew up and who are your parents.
