Chapter 1

Dear diary, Everything has been going downhill. First there is a war which is the reason we had to get in that plane, the point of it was to end up in another country not a random island. But that didn’t work out to well now did it.   All we have is each other. We need a leader, and a great one too. And fellas that is me, I may not know how to sing a C-sharp note but there is one important thing I know. I know how to be civilized and make sure we are all protecting each other. Or at least I will try my very best, that's something I can guarantee you.   At last I was given my rightful title. I was chosen as the leader, but to make sure everyone was happy I assigned Jack as head hunter. Hopefully he is satisfied with that title. Well that’s all for today.   Sincerely, Ralph

Conch shell

The conch shell symbolizes civilization on the island amongst all the boys. The Conch shell is important because he helps the boys maintain a sign of respect towards one another and let everyone speak freely with the conch in his hands. The conch is only used when there is an assembly being taken place. The way it is used is whoever holds the conch can speak and no one can interrupt. The only person who may interrupt is Ralph because he is the one in charged.

He was also affected because he was constantly debating whether he would make it out alive. As he was jumping out of the boat for safety he saw his friends/ co-workers being shot at in the water and drowning by their equipment. Golding was affected because he was 19 out of many and going to start college and going into War for his country.                Golding was questioning the goodness of mankind because he was seeing all of these terrible things the Germans were doing to others. How could they have the stomach to kill someone else, Golding was questioning it because it could possibly be the way the he was brought up in a good way from his home that h
